Episode 7: Revelations

Season Three, Episode Seven
"Revelations"
This episode is pretty basic in it's message: assuming things can lead to disaster. Also, many characters within this show are oblivious to the secrets their friends are keeping. We open this episode with Xander and Willow freaking the hell out while with Oz and Cordelia and apparently both of their partners notice nothing. Before they can rat themselves out and admit to their crimes, Willow brings up Buffy, saying that she's been distant. Cordelia suggests maybe she has a new boyfriend and, when Buffy comes to the table, they ask her. She replies saying that she "wouldn't call it dating, but [she] is seeing someone." Enter Buffy's hot date:
“Really we’re just good friends” I don’t believe you, Buffy
Hilarity ensues with Giles sipping some tea while Faith and Buffy participate in the new Olympic sport, synchronized slaying. After both vamps are dusted, some woman shows up and tells them how poor of a job they did. Apparently there's a new Watcher in town...

"I have a very large stick up my ass"

Faith isn’t happy about her new Watcher because she doesn't like authority because, she claims, “they end up kinda dead." I'm starting to like Faith more and more. She-Watcher continues complaining about everything including Giles library (*gasp*) and claiming that there is talk that Giles has become too “American." Ouch, way to hurt someone when they're down. Buffy has the same thoughts about this bitch as I do...

“Interesting lady…can I kill her?”
Next we see Angel again, still lacking a shirt…Wait a minute, it can't be. Is he actually--OMG HE'S PUTTING A SHIRT ON AND BUTTONING IT UP!
Good job, Angel! I'm proud of you! But I'm sure everyone watching this who is not a lesbian is pissed.
Now we're getting into the heart of the episode. Giles asks Xander to look up information about the demon She-Watcher mentioned and he becomes AX “Hey, you're not the Watcher of me” “then go home but if you want to stay than work”  Yay for Giles telling him off! AX goes and him and Willow do inappropriate things but Giles has no idea because his nose is behind a book.
Back on patrol, Faith begins sensing her date time with Buffy isn’t going very well when she won’t tell her about her sexual history so she leaves to slay alone. AX, who left to go find the demon to run away from his guilt, sees Angel and begins stalking him until he sees him back at his place kissing Buffy. What horrible timing for them to finally kiss. And weird timing, he’s actually wearing a shirt and now you find yourself wanting to make out with him?
The She-Watcher continues being a bitch. Giles tells the She-Watcher that he is in complete control of his Slayer just before AX bursts in his apartment saying they have a problem with Buffy; again with the awesome timing. After learning about Buffy's secret, the gang plan an intervention. Willow, being adorable, tells everyone to use "I" statements and not to jump on Buffy which is very good advice but obviously AX refuses to have any of it. He hits her over and over and even brings up Ms. Calendar's murder. I can't even stand him, but I'll leave the ranting for Kali. My favorite part of this scene comes after AX's dumb, below the belt comment when Willow freaks out and says:

"Giles, no one is doing the 'I' statements!" (Favorite Line)

Besides just being adorable, Willow actually has a good point in stating that Buffy tends to have a blind spot when it comes to Angel. Unlike AX and somewhat Giles, Willow understands why Buffy kept it a secret and I believe is purely concerned for Buffy's own well being in this situation. Both AX and Giles both have grudges against Angel and are taking this secret a bit too personally, I think.
Giles gives Buffy a sad by reminding him that Angel tortured him for hours for pleasure and tells her that she has no respect for him or the job he performs. In the spirit of giving people sads, She-Watcher telling Faith about the meeting Giles is having for Buffy with her friends. Faith has a sad realizing that “friends” doesn’t include her.
Willow obviously is harboring a secret, but apparently Buffy either believes her opinion on secrets or just wants the issue to cease being discussed.
At the Bronze, AX is a jerkface with Faith and tells her about how Angel’s alive and Faith says she’s going to slay him  to give herself less competition to get with Buffy. Ax asks to come to kill Angel, not watch Faith/Buffy have sex afterwards.
Giles tells She-Watcher that he knows where the glove is and she—knocks him unconscious!

THAT BITCH!

Again with the obvious, Willow asks Buffy if being with Angel in secret made it sexier. *Sigh* Willow, please just stop with Xander, I don’t like being upset with you! She actually starts to tell Buffy about AX but a demon shows up.
Back at the library, AX and Faith find Giles and assume Angel hurt him. You know what they say when you assume things...
And now I love Willow again. When her and Buffy show up and find Giles and hear from AX how Faith went to kill him, Willow yells at him “shut up and help me.” Go Willow!
“She’s blinded by love”
She-Watcher puts on the glove while Buffy and Faith have some fore playing fun fight.
Everything turns out fine. The She-Watcher is killed, Angel's fine and Willow at least likes him after he saves her life, and Buffy and AX are apparently fine. Buffy then goes to tell Faith that she’s attracted to her on her side and Faith tells her that she—meaning Faith—is on her side and that’s enough. Faith stops Buffy before she leaves to tell her something, but changes her mind. The episode ends with Faith sitting on her bed wishing she had asked Buffy to stay and have sex with her.
So kids, I think we've learned a very important lesson today about making assumptions: it leads to evil women almost getting away with stealing dark and powerful objects.

Kali’s Notes:
- My notes on the new watcher say, “DON’T YOU PICK ON MY GILES, BITCH.”
- Fun Fact: We learn that there are 12 cemeteries in the Sunnydale city limits.
- Who knew Tai Chi could be so sexy?

-While I am totally starting to ship Faith/Buffy, they still really don’t understand each other. Faith, who has never had any meaningful relationships, doesn’t understand why it’s so difficult for Buffy to talk about Angel. Buffy, who has people in her life that she can count on, doesn’t understand that just telling Faith “trust me” is not going to earn her actual trust, when she has been let down so many times before. Their lack of understanding of each other is what leads to this rivalry that they have.
- Also, after being betrayed by her new Watcher, Faith has really given up on trusting anyone but herself. By not feeling included by the group and this lack of trust, a foundation is set up for Faith being distant from the group.
- I absolutely love how Willow tells Buffy that she is “zero” mad with her. Willow knows what it’s like to be doing something that you have to keep secret and since she’s a good person she doesn’t judge Buffy on doing something similar. AX, on the other hand, has always been a huge hypocrite so he continues the pattern of saying how bad someone is for doing something, when he himself is doing something equally as bad! So just to make things clear; if AX has demon hyenas possessing him, it’s ok to attempt to rape somebody. But if you lose your soul and have a demon take over your body, you should be eternally damned and die in ALL the fires. If AX is keeping a secret about cheating on his girlfriend with his best friend, it’s completely ok. But if you keep a secret about your ex-boyfriend returning, then you should throw yourself into a volcano because you are obviously a horrible human being. Xander-logic makes my brain hurt.
- While Faith is quick to judge also, I don’t blame her nearly as much as Xander. First, all she knows is what Xander tells her so that’s obviously biased. Second, she is feeling particularly left out from the group, so her mindset is already a little pissed off. And third, she’s never been much of a thinker so all she knows is that vampires are bad and should be staked so she just sticks with that logic.
- Giles even makes ME feel guilty for understanding Buffy keeping Angel a secret. The biggest difference in how he reacts is the fact that he doesn’t judge her, he doesn’t call her out in front of everyone; he lets her know how he FEELS in private. Maturity FTW.
- AX admits to overreacting in the end, but that’s just not good enough. You can’t just apologize for saying horrible things and almost causing someone’s death and that makes everything ok. Asshole.
- Favorite Line (I LOLed when Angel said this because I added a phrase to the end) : I think I have what you're looking for... in my pants.

  1. I usually try to avoid pairing up characters into relationships, for I never can predict the actual relationships, but seeing how you ship Spike/Angel or Buffy/Faith is just hilarious. And, excellent use of strikethrough!
