Season 4, Episode 5

"Beer Bad"

This episode can be summed up by the title. Buffy learns the ramifications of getting drunk in college and the fact that alcohol makes everything better you act like an idiot. I wasn't trying to be creative with this post, I actually had this idea a month ago for this episode when trying to think of things to do for the not-so-great early episodes of Season 4. Introducing "Cavewoman Kali".

Buffy fight lots of vampires in daydream during class. Dumb Parker there. Buffy need to get over stupid boy. Professor Walsh say big words about what brain wants.

Buffy's brain wants dumb things.

Xander got job as bartender. He's dumb. He don't know how to do job. Buffy still sad and whining about boys. Me thinks she needs to get over it. Willow says something about not liking men's penises. That's why she like Oz; he has little hands like woman.

Buffy stalking Parker. She run into Riley. He is nice guy. Very tall. Has big muscles like leader of a tribe. Smarty pants college man use big words to make Xander feel bad. Xander helps save world lots mean college man. Buffy is being sad and whiny still. Me want her to stop it. Then men line up to mate with her.

Oz say funny line, "Hey you got a table." Willow: "I had to kill a man." Oz: "It's a really good table." Me laugh at it. Then girl that sings weird makes Oz feel all funny inside. Something is wrong here. Willow is sad.

Something no right here.

Man talks in big words again just to sound smart, but I think he is big douche-bag. All the men get Buffy drunk. And it's Kumar!

He went to Whitecastle

Next day Willow is mad about Veruca girl that make Oz go crazy. Buffy is not so smart no more. She make Willow think she had group-sex. Me laugh more. Buffy tell Willow she drank lots of beer and now does not think so good. Buffy steals girls sandwich. Funny ha-ha.

Buffy drinks more beer and gets more dumb. Men she is with get dumber too. Xander watches over her in overprotective way. He is nice. Xander tell Buffy beer is bad. I like beer. Beer yummy and good. Xander make Buffy go home. Xander go to men who were mean to him and take all their money because they are drunk and dumb. Then they go all caveman on him. Really, they turn into cavemen. Cavemen always win. Owner of bar turned them in cavemen by cursing the beer. That's what they get for being mean jerkfaces.

Willow is sad Oz is playing with bitch Veruca's band. Willow stays home to study. Then she goes out and runs into Parker. Willow gets angry at him for men being dumb. He tries to be philosophical. I almost believe him. He trick me and I no like it. Parker has long eyelashes. I want to touch them. Then Parker and Willow talk for long time. He tries to hit on her and she laughs in his face. She say, "Just how gullible do you think I am?" Willow point out how all men want is the sex. Maybe she should give up men altogether.

Xander gets smart Giles man for help. Buffy has gone all cavewoman.

Buffy look for people inside little box of moving pictures. Then Buffy run away to get more beer.

Cavemen start big fire. Fire bad.

Tree pretty.

Buffy run into burning building. Buffy help save all the cavemen and Willow. Buffy go back in to save Parker. She hits him with a big stick. This called "poetic justice" and is made of win. Poetic justice also in "smart" guys turning "dumb" and Xander laughing at them. Parker says sorry for being asshole. Buffy hit him with stick again. Me laugh.

- Cavewoman Kali beats Astronaut!

Sarah's Notes
"These are the things we want. Simple things. Comfort, sex, shelter, food. We always want them and we want them all the time. The id doesn't learn it doesn't grow up. It has the ego telling it what it can't have and it has the superego telling it what it should want. But the id works solely out of the pleasure principle. It wants. Whatever social skills you've learned, however much we've evolved, the pleasure principal is at work in all of us. So, how does this conflict with the ego manifest itself in the psyche? What do we do when we can't have what we want?"
This quote by Professor Walsh is the entire episode. The id, as she stated, doesn't learn and only goes off of what feels good. This is comparable to cavemen, but also to Parker. Luckily, Willow understands him perfectly: "Just how gullible do you think I am? I mean with you gentle
eyes and your shy smile and your ability to talk openly even to me! You're unbelievable! This isn't sharing. This isn't connecting. It's the pleasure principle. That's right I got your number ID boy. The only thing you're thinking about is how long you can jump on my bones."

However, despite them all operating off of their ids, Buffy shows how, even in this state, she still has an incredibly powerful superego that is able to overpower her id. This allows her to rescue Willow from the fire, help get everyone out, and also carry out Parker (after hitting him in the head, of course.)

Also, this episode has a lot of great quotes:

- "NOTHING CAN DEFEAT THE PENIS!”
- "We have a very strict policy about you leaving”
- “You guys really love to hear yourselves speak, don’t ya?”
- Willow: You didn't. Not with Parker again. Buffy: No, with four really smart guys. Willow: Four? Oh. Ow. Oh Buffy, are you okay? Do you wanna talk about it? Buffy: I went to see Xander. Then I saw Parker. Then came beer. Willow: And then group sex? (Favorite Line; Willow is awesome!)- “*pointing to Willow* She read the reading”
- Not a quote but Buffy throwing the fire extinguisher into the fire makes me lol every time.
